The Big Idea

We identified many years ago a lack of documentation and missed treatment opportunities in medical charts from doctors who came for training. Documentation requirements, regulations, and billing variations have become more burdensome, making it difficult if not impossible to keep up with the continuous changes. As a result many medical practices find themselves returning thousands and even millions of dollars when auditors find inadequate documentation. Some practices see their contracts terminated and – in the worst cases – accused of fraud.

Our idea to help doctors overcome these difficulties came to life from the patterns we observed. We saw the potential and now have the software that will enable doctors to “do it right the first time”.

Medical Rules

The effectiveness of screening colonoscopy in decreasing the incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is largely dependent on the detection of polyps and the quality of the procedure.

Studies have found that second screening colonoscopies within the same year are performed on only 30% of patients with incomplete colonoscopies, of which 40% had polyps. All patients with an incomplete colonoscopy procedure should have a second screening that same year.

Never miss an opportunity to make a diagnosis or improve a patient’s condition.

Take the edge off the complexity of decision making.

Automated Clinical Decision Support Rules have proven effective and will continue to become a norm in medicine. Each Encounter Form contains rules that are tailored to the different specialties, such as the colonoscopy example above: the doctor would have been alerted to reschedule the procedure and thus would have improved the quality of patient care.

Rules in Action

A patient with a history of glaucoma was being treated for Macular Degeneration.

Patients with glaucoma should have a glaucoma workup done annually. It is common for doctors to overlook the glaucoma while treating other acute illnesses. This can lead to permanent damage due to elevated pressures and failure to address the issue in due time.

After many visits for his retina treatment doctors had always overlooked the patient’s glaucoma; their main concern for the retina overshadowed the shared glaucoma signs. When our rules were initiated at this clinic the doctor noticed the indications for glaucoma testing. This quickly threw up a red flag for him and he ordered the necessary tests.

Ophthalmology Rules

Never miss an opportunity to make a diagnosis or improve a patient’s condition.

Annual Dry Eye Revenue

Historical data proves that physicians frequently miss the opportunity to order the tests necessary to ensure that the patient is receiving adequate care. These tests include yearly OCT of the optic nerve as well as diabetic screenings and other related preventive care measures. Ibeza rules ensure that service providers remain aware of all indicated tests and procedures without the need for a deep search of the patient records.
